Update the app with your account in mind

An update starts with the app already on your phone. Check its identity and your sign-in method before installing another package.

Guide reviewed

Before you download an update

Open the installed app’s information screen and note its name and version, if shown. Check for an update route inside the app or on the download page you normally use.

Make sure you can use your existing sign-in or recovery method. Keep passwords and verification codes private. A screenshot of a lobby is not a backup of account access.

Compare the new package

Review the current download page for the release information it actually provides. A larger file or a more recent file name does not prove that the package is the correct update.

The package identity and signing information matter. Follow the file and source checks when a similarly named package appears. Do not assume that two apps called Gold Rummy are interchangeable.

Use the existing installation when compatible

A compatible Android update can usually be installed over the existing app. Open the completed file and read whether Android is offering an update or a new installation.

If the installer reports a conflict, stop and confirm the source. Uninstalling first may remove local data without solving an identity or signature mismatch.

After the update

Open the app and check that your usual account access works. Read any changed prompts or game rules before continuing. If login fails, use account access help rather than repeatedly reinstalling.

If the app stays on a loading screen, note the phone model, Android version and error message for the service’s support team.
